Andrew Ostrovsky is the creator of this week’s Story Behind the Image chosen for its striking and intricate layers and the technique and concept behind it.
We asked him to detail the methodology and inspiration behind his image, Light of Ideas:
The main idea for this image was my constant fascination with the interplay between human drama, mathematics and nature. I look for their symbolic representation in graphic design and the theme appears over and over again in many of my images.
The human profile outline, number waves and lights represent each subject while the brain, network lines and background grid unite the composition. Additional compositional integrity was achieved with central light and a “mystical” color scheme.
I use a large library of elements and effects I had created with various design software and the image was assembled from previously rendered and layered components in Adobe Photoshop CC. Below is the breakdown of the components and corresponding software:
- The human outline and brain were drawn by hand in Adobe Illustrator CC, with glow effects applied in Photoshop CC.
- Numbers and network lines were created in Illustrator CC using the FilterIt plugin and Illustrator styles
- The background grid was created in Apophysis fractal generator.
- The number wave was generated with the Red Giant Trapcode Form plugin in Adobe After Effects CC.
- The lights were created in Illustrator CC using some custom Scriptographer scripts.
A big thank you to Andrew for sharing the details of his multi-layered process. Discover more of his work in his Adobe Stock portfolio.
