Veronique Meignaud is a Montreal-based concept artist who creates masterful and intricate environmental illustrations. Although her medium is digital, Veroniques strives to retain a “painting feeling” in her work and prefers to draw her environments rather than use photographs.
Veronique began creating brushes of natural elements like trees and leaves to address her need to render environments quickly with the fewest brush strokes possible. These custom brushes give her (and now us!) the advantage of speed while maintaining a rich, organic style.
Each of Veronique’s brushes begins as a digital painting in Photoshop. She outlines an image and adjusts the contrast accordingly until it is suitable as a base shape. She then duplicates the original illustration and experiments with opacity and spacing. When the brush is complete, Veronique uses it in conjunction with basic brushes to create her detailed digital paintings.
Veronique’s brushes allow creatives to swiftly fill in natural backgrounds without compromising quality or detail. By sharing these brushes, Veronique hopes to aid fellow artists in their “professional and personal artistic process,” and ultimately, encourage them to create brushes of their own.
